OPENING CREDITS

News Report (The screen buzzes and goes blank. Then a TV report comes on.)

                        Reporter

Recently the Russian satellite B.O.R.I.S. crash landed in a small American town in Illinois known as Endsville. The satellite was collecting radioactive dust from a storm on Mars. The radiation has now been removed from the area so far without incident. We hope thatÖ

(Reporter pauses)

Ladies and gentlemen. This just in. It appears that the radioactive substance causes the recently deceased to come back to life. It appears these reanimated bodies have an instinctive urge toÖ feed on the living. These ďZombiesĒ as many call them have highly contagious tendencies. Anyone bitten will soon become infected and die. Moments later the process will complete and they will become undead. Please keep all doors and windows securely locked and bolted. Anyone bitten should be isolated immediately. No panic is necessary, because military forces all across the world are working to end this strange occurrence as soon as possible.

(Tape rewinds and repeats ďas soon as possible two or three times before zooming out to see the back of a chair with someone sitting in it. He has a remote and is rewinding the tape. The bottom will say ďThree years after incidentĒ The person in the chair gets up. We can see that he is about 14 years of age.)

                        Boy (Tom Evans)

As soon as possible just isnít good enough.

(The boy grabs a shirt from a hanger, grabs a blunt weapon and exits.)

FADE IN:

EXT. PARK-DUSK

Bodies and debris litter the ground. Some of the bodies get up while others are already walking around the scene.

CUT TO:

Another boy approx. 14 is fighting off zombies. He is using a pistol. He runs out of ammo and stops to reload giving the zombies a chance to attack. As one of the zombies reaches him it is struck in the head by a baseball bat. Camera shows boy same age (Tom Evans) in scene. Tom is fighting alongside boy.

                        Boy

I donít need your help. Go away.

                        Tom

I donít care. Iím not backing down from a chance to kill some zombies.

                        Boy

Who do you think you are anyway kid?

                        Tom

First, Iím the same age as you, by the looks of it, so Iím no more of a ďkidĒ than you. And second, the nameís Tom Evans and Iím here with an offer that you canít refuse

                        Boy

Look, Iím no bodyguard so youíve gotta look after yourself.

                        Tom

I donít need protection; I heard rumors of large piles of dead zombies around this area. I came to see what or who was good enough to take out all those zombies. Iím here to see if you would be interested in joining my little army.

                        Boy

          Thanks, but I work alone.

                        Tom

So did I until I saw how many there actually were. Donít you realize what these things can do? Oh, sure there not very fast or strong, but these things can learn. Theyíre pack hunters, a pretty good trait to have considering there are thousands in this tow right now.

                        Boy

If youíre trying to scare me, itís not working. Iíve never seen more then five in one day.

                        Tom

Fine, believe what you want, but if you want to learn the truth than come with me.

(The boy doesnít move so Tom walks away.)

                        Boy

          Wait! Iím with you Tom.

                        Tom

Thought so. You got a name?

                        Boy

          The nameís John, John Miler.

                        Tom

Alright, we are professional zombie hunters.

                        John

          We? Whoís we?

                        Tom

My military commander and tactics advisor, General Rudolph, proposed we build an army to finally destroy those monsters once and for all. Normally, we just point people to our safe house and drop by for food and water every few days. Now, any able bodied persons, preferably no older than fifteen are enlisted to help us. The safe house is now our base.

                        John

          Iím in.

                        Tom

Great! We can go there but I have one more assignment before we can go. If you donít mindÖ

                        John

          Not at all.

                        Tom

          Great lets move.

                        John

          One question.

                        Tom

          Ask away.

                   John

Why have an army solely built up of teens.

                   Tom

Well first, most adults would have trouble taking orders from someone my age. Weíd end up being too busy fighting each other to fight the zombies and second, the invasion began only two months ago. Adults lack the instinctive resourcefulness we have. Theyíre too used to life among the living. If there are any still alive out here, they wonít be for long.

: FADE OUT

FADE IN:

Alleyway (More debris and zombies. John and Tom are running down the alley killing zombies. When they reach the end and are about to exit the alley they meet General Rudolph and his team and his girlfriend Kaitlyn.)

                     Kaitlyn

Tom. Iím glad to see youíve made it. Whereís your team?

                     Tom

Oh come on. You know I donít like working with grunts. They cramp my style. This is John. I met him about a half hour ago. Iíve got a feeling that heís gonna be quite the addition to our cause.

                    Kaitlyn

Okay, if you say so. Where are you headed?

                   TOM

Last run of the night. Iím assigned to patrol grid 3 before I turn in.

                   Kaitlyn

          Alright than. Good luck.

                  Rudolph

Tom, just be in before midnight. You work too hard. Youíve missed your birthday two years in a row and you barely make it back to base before lockdown.

TOM

Hey. Time flyís when youíre having fun.

                  Rudolph

Tom, this isnĎt a game and you know that. Plus I know why you really stay out so late and trust me; revenge wonít make you feel better about what happened. If youíll justÖ

                 TOM

What do you know; you canít even begin to understand the pain those things caused me. Letís go John.

(Tom and John walk away and General Rudolph shakes his head.)

                 John

What was he talking about, what happened?

                 TOM

I donít wanna talk about it.

: FADE OUT

FADE IN:

Street (zombies surround a house, there is a crash and a piercing scream.)

                 TOM

         Letís go!

(Cut to family-girl approx. 14 years old, father, mother and infant. They are backed up in a corner with zombies advancing towards them. Show front shot of zombie. It is about to strike but at the last second stops and falls over revealing John reloading his pistol. A fight scene ensues. John and Tom have supposedly killed all of the zombies but one is unknowingly sneaking up on them. They notice but before either can react, a pan wielded by the girl hits the zombie in the face and it immediately slumps over dead.)

TOM

We were perfectly alright. You didnít need to do anything.

             Girl

Well, no one asked you to help us either! My names Rachel by the way.

             John

Iím John, this is Tom, weíre here to rescue you.

            Rachel

We were doing just fine on our own. Go away. We can handle ourselves.

             Tom

        Yeah, butÖ

            Rachel

       Weíre fine! Go away!

Tom

I know, but if you would justÖ

                        John

       Rachel and family exit house.

(Tom sighs and walks out with John)

: FADE OUT

FADE IN:

Safe House Bar (Tom and John are sitting at the bar drinking a sodas in glasses.)

                John

       You like her donít you

              Tom

      No.

               John

Yeah you do. You want to go out and save her and bring her back here.

              Tom

      No I donít! Shut up!

            John

Fine. (Awkward silence) You would make a cut couple though.

(Tom yells and moves to hit Jon but General Rudy walks up with his girlfriend.)

              Rudolph (to boys)

Howís it going boys?

             John

Hello sir. Hey Kaitlyn

             Rudolph (to girl)

What can I get you babe?

              Kaitlyn

Iíll just have a ginger ale.

               Rudolph (to bartender)

         Two please.

(Bartender hands them two more glasses of soda.)

               Rudolph (to Tom)

Yíknow, the only thing that keeps me goiní is Kaitlyn here. You just canít live without someone you care about and who cares for you too.

              Tom

Well, Whoop dee doodle doo for you Rudy.

              Rudolph

I told you, itís general in front of the men, and you seem a bitÖ Distracted tonight. Did something happen at grid three that I should know about.

             John

There was a girl that Tom likesÖ

             Tom

        No I donít!

            John (To Tom)

Yes you do. (To Rudy again) But Tom here let her get away.

            Rudolph

Ah. So thereís a girl. Well, there is a whole hour until lockdown. Plus I could stall it for you.

            Tom

What are you saying? That I go out and look for this girl?!

          Kaitlyn

But you do love her? Donít you?

          Tom

Thatís not the point. Sheíll probably just die like all of my family and friends.

           Rudolph

You were the one who told me that we are starting over. We were gonna forget the old times because they gave nothing to us but painful memories. No one lives forever Tom and love is worth any risk.

(Rudolph takes a sip of his drink and lets it soak in.)

         Tom

Iíll be back (Tom runs out of the pub. John follows)

           : FADE OUT

FADE IN:

Outside (Family-mother, infant and Rachel, Father is nowhere to be seen. Rachel is fighting zombies while her mother is standing nearby holding the baby. Rachel is beginning to become overwhelmed and the zombies close in. Tom and John ride in on bicycles taking out a few zombies on the way.)

          TOM

Iím getting really tired of saving you. Is everyone alright?

          Rachel

No. We got lost. My father was bitten and refused to go on. We were too weak to carry him so we left him on the front steps of the high school.

         John

We went right by the high school and we didnít see anyone. Iím sorry to say this but your father isÖ

        Mother

    Coming back. Look!

(The reanimated body of the father is lurching towards the group. Rachelís mother puts down the baby and begins running towards him.)

              Rachel

    Mom! No!

(The mother is bitten by her husband and is also surrounded by a team of zombies who cover her entirely. The motherís screams attract many more zombies to the scene.)

               TOM

Thereís too many, we canít stop them. This is all my fault. If I hadnĎt let you go, we wouldnĎt be here.

(Rudy rides up with a gun and a bat and begins bashing and shooting blindly. He creates enough of a distraction that all of the zombies turn to him.)

               Rudolph

      Go! Now!

(Rachel grabs the baby. John and Rachel grab two bikes and Tom goes to the third but hesitates.)

              Tom

      But RudyÖ

             Rudolph

      Iíll be fine. Go!

John (puts her hand on Tomís shoulder)

      Live now, fight later, okay?

(Tom grabs the third bicycle and the three ride away.)

: FADE OUT

FADE IN:

Safe House (The doors are closing and Kaitlyn is staring out at the street. As the doors are about to close she turns to the gatekeeper)

            Kaitlyn

Hold on, there are still people out there.

            Gatekeeper

Iím sorry Miss Lancaster but rules are rules. They should have been in before midnight.

            Kaitlyn

Fine give me a rifle with a scope and a team of shades.

           Gatekeeper

     You canít be serious.

           Kaitlyn

     I am.

(Three people dressed in black come over [shades] one hands Caitlin a gun and they walk out. The door closes and locks behind them.)

: FADE OUT

FADE IN:

Campfire (Tom, John, Rachel and the baby are seated by the campfire. The baby begins to cry softly.)

          Tom

Could you keep him quiet please? We are at the heart of zombie territory. This was the most populated area of the city beforeÖ

         Rachel

    Before, them.

          Tom

Let me start from the beginning. My name is Tom Evans. I lived around here a few months ago.

: FADE OUT (Tomís flashback.)

FADE IN:

Tom walks up to his front door (night, door ajar)

         Tom (V/O)

I lived with my mother and father and two sisters. I had just returned from a weekend at my friend Rudyís lakehouse. We were friends before all of this. Part of me

I walked into my house and saw that the door was open slightly. The lights were off so I assumed everyone was asleep. I walked in but my sisters werenít in their beds and neither were my parents. I thought that maybe they were hiding and were going to spring up and welcome me home. So I went upstairs and opened my door. (Tom opens door to his room.) I smelled something like rotting meat. I flipped on the lights (lights go on) and saw my family lying on the floor. They had been killed and partially eaten, by what I wasnít sure. I heard moaning coming from the closet. I opened the door and something jumped out at me. I was on the floor before I knew what happened. Then I saw it. It was a man standing over me. But it wasnít a man. His eyes were glazed over and he had blood stains on his shirt and face. I tried to run but another one was on the stairs. I saw a baseball bat on the floor and I swung. The thing just slumped over and stopped moving. I flew down the stairs and burst out the back door. They were everywhere. A Rudyís cousin drove up. He was human, I could tell. Rudy was in the back seat. We were taken to a building where there was hot food and water waiting. We were safe. Eventually they moved on but Rudy and I stayed. We knew there were people who still needed our help. Of the people we rescued we took the able bodied for our makeshift army. Those too old, frail or young we take care of as well. But those who were bitten. Well, we had no choice but to quietly execute them.

            Rachel

   Iím sorry.

           Tom

For what. You couldnít have prevented or stopped this in any way. Weíre in the same boat you and I. No parents and someone we care the world about.

           Rachel

I know I have my brother Nathan, but who are you talking about.

          Tom

    You.

: FADE OUT

FADE IN:

Morning, the area where we last saw Rudolph (Kaitlyn is at a vantage point without her team of Shades. She sees Rudolph in a tree surrounded by zombies. She takes them all out with her rifle. She walks towards the tree with Rudolph clinging to a high branch. He looks down with a smirk.)

Rudolph

You saved my lifeÖ Does this mean weíre going steady?

       Kaitlyn

Get down here before I shoot you myself.

      Rudolph

So thatís it? You came alone?

      Kaitlyn

Of course not. I had help. (Kaitlyn whistles and a number of shades pop out of bushes and trees.) By the way if you ever do anything crazy like that again, I swear IíllÖ

     Rudolph

Hold your horses. We have more important matters to attend to. We have to find Tom and his girlfriend.

    Kaitlyn

  Tom got a girlfriend?

   Rudolph

Itís been a long night for all of us. I think I know where they might be.

  Kaitlyn

You mean if theyíre still alive.

     Rudolph

Tomís a tough old bean, he can take care of himself but this girlfriend of his might cloud the issue.

    Kaitlyn

Do I ever cloud your issues?

   Rudolph

Constantly, but in the best way possible.

: FADE OUT

FADE IN:

Encampment (John is standing guard, Tom is dousing the fire and Rachel is watching the baby.)

                 Tom

Letís get back to the safe house. We need toÖ

                Rachel

Tom, about last night, do you really care about me as much as you said?

               Tom

Letís just say, youíre the first person Iíve truly cared about since the incident. Now as I was saying, we have to get to base beforeÖ

               Rachel

      Tom?

              Tom

      What now?

             Rachel

     I love you too.

(There is a long silence that is broken by the baby fussing.)

 Rachel (contd.)

We should go before the baby gets hungry and really starts crying.

                     Tom (to John)

Thatís exactly what I was gonna say.

                    John

Donít let her get to you man.

                   Tom

        Women.

: FADE OUT

FADE IN:

(Rudolph and Kaitlyn are walking through a forested area. A Shade pops up and salutes. Rudolph salutes back.)

                  Shade1

Sir we have located Mr. Evans and his friends. They are headed this way now.

                 Rudolph

     Good work soldier.

(Another Shade comes barreling out of the bushes. He stops to catch his breath.)

                Shade2

Sir, I was patrolling the central wood as you instructed with unit 3 but we came across a Squad of Undead. There must have been one hundred zombies there. And that was just a minor group.

            Kaitlyn

One hundred?! And you say it was just a minor set?

            Shade2

Yes maíam. We heard the footsteps of the Primary group. It sounded like they were headed in the direction of the safe house.

           Rudolph

Curses! I had a feeling they were up to something. How many do you think there were in total?

          Shade 2

Well sir, judging by the footsteps I assume, 1000 zombies. Unit 3 went to investigate. When I heard the screams, I ran.

          Kaitlyn

They outnumber us ten to one. Even with superior weapons and intelligence weíll never win.

         Rudolph

      Thereís still a chance.

(To Shades)Find Evans and Miler. Get them back to the safe house. Tell him what you told me.

(To Kaitlyn) Youíre coming with me.

(Rudolph and Kaitly rush off and the Shades slink back into the trees.)

: FADE OUT

FADE IN:

Safe House armory (soldiers are preparing for battle.)

            John

     Whatís the plan?

           Tom

We make our final stand here. We take all those unable to fight into the cellar. There is a secret passage leading into the sewers. If we fail they should at least be able to escape.

(To Rachel) Take the baby and go with them.

          Rachel

      I wonít leave you

           Tom

Please. Someone needs to take care of your brother.

          Rachel

(Hands baby to a passing woman with other children around her) Take care of him. Iíll want him back after this is over though.

(The lady nods. Rachel turns to Tom and smirks)

Problem solved.

          Tom

Rachel. I couldnít stand losing you. Itís too dangerous.

          Rachel

You need all the help you can get. Besides, youíre going out there arenít you? Someone needs to watch your back.

         John

      Actually, thatís my job.

           Rachel

Please, I canít just sit in the dark waiting for this to end. I wonít.

          Tom

Fine. Grab a weapon. Just please; donít do anything foolish out there.

         Rachel

    Got it.

  (A loud moaning is heard.)

         John

Theyre almost here. Fasten your seatbelts.

: FADE OUT

FADE IN:

Outside safe house (soldiers are nervously pacing or wringing their hands. A lone zombie comes into view but is then followed by many more. A great battle ensues. The army is surrounded. Everything seems hopeless. There is a noise coming from the distance.)

         Tom

    Whatís that noise?

        John

It sounds like cars. Lost of Ďem.

        Rachel

    Yeah, but zombies canít drive.

         Tom

Thatís because they arenít zombies. Look!

(Cars full of people drive toward the zombies. In the lead car is Rudolph and Kaitlyn. The cars stop and the people in the cars get out and begin tearing through the zombies. When the zombies are all dead General Rudolph comes up to Tom with a man who appears to be the reinforcement leader.)

        Tom

Jacob! (Tom bring Jacob over to Rachel.)

Rachel, this is my good friend Jacob. He was the one who saved Rudy and me and taught us everything we know. We all owe him our lives.

           Jacob

Donít thank me. We were glad to help an old friend. The good general was the one who told us about your plight. So we decided to lend a hand. Well, it seems like youíre doiní all right now. We should get going.

           Tom

Why donít you all stay? We have more than enough room and our soldiers can benefit from your teaching.

           Jacob

I dunno. We nomads get tired of staying in one place for too long. We have to keep moving.

           Tom

Alright, but could you at least stay for the party?
